Reply To Web Traffic Questions

I seldom talk about the "mechanics" of websites, traffic, and rankings because I am not an "internet guru" with some course to sell.  I still get asked a lot about how to get traffic to websites and build good back links to increase website rankings.

The truth is - it's a lot of work. There really are no short cuts. Continue to provide quality content to your readers and stay away from spammy or "black hat" tactics.

I do use various services and tools that help make that process more manageable.  I am going to share one with you that is completely free to use....no tricks, gimmicks, or fake promises.

Free Traffic System is a network that allows you to do 2 things...create relevant one way links back to your site and get content for your own site.  I use the service primarily for back link generation and it has been very effective.

You simply post an article into the system and that article will be posted to related blogs with one way links back to your site. It is a simple, straightforward, and effective program. I use the free version, but there is a premium version that creates even more links per article at an affordable price.

Watch the video about Free Traffic System to see how it works.

Disclaimer: I am an affiliate of FTS, while I don't receive cash payments for referring free members - I may receive additional bonus   back links. Personally I see that as a good thing and a "win" for everybody.

Clueless

How detached have some people become to how food makes it to their supper table?

During a legislative hearing on agriculture issues, a witness, complaining about the “mess” and “smells” associated with farms located near her new home, demanded strict laws that would allow farms to be shut down.

An alert panelist asked, “Ma’am, then where will you get your food?”

The lady answered, “At the grocery store across the street, of course.”

Berry Berry Nice Juice Recipe

Recipe: Berry Berry

Handful of blackberries (fresh or frozen)
Handful of blueberries (fresh or frozen)
Handful of strawberries (fresh or frozen)
½ pineapple
250 grams of soya milk or soya yoghurt

A variation of this is the most popular recipe on our 3 day detox program.  It tastes amazing and is also packed with goodness.  The soya yoghurt or milk is a healthy alternative and the taste of the berries removes the after taste some people complain of with soya products. Juice the pineapple and then put in the blender with the other ingredients. We are sure it will become one of your favourites also.
  • Blackberries Contains vitamin C and E, fibre, potassium, iron, calcium, manganese, beta-carotene and phosphorous. They are beneficial for heart and circulation problems.
  • Blueberries contain beta-carotene, vitamin C, calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, tannins (help kill viruses and bacteria), and anti-oxidants. They are anti-bacterial, anti-viral, disease fighting and anti-aging
  • Strawberries contain vitamin C and E, ellagic acid, folic acid, beta-carotene, potassium, iron and antioxidants. They are anti-viral, anti-cancer, and effective against gout, rheumatism and arthritis. They are a great cleansing juice and good tonic for the liver.
  • Pineapples contain vitamin C, potassium, iron and folic acid. Their juice cleanses the intestines and also helps to boost the immune system

Time For A Fall 3 Day Detox

It was pretty clear tonight that fall is here. The air was crisp and the first signs of changing color could be seen in the tops of the trees that surround us.
We made a big bonfire and enjoyed the warmth of the fire and friends. It was a good night.
The beginning of fall is a sign that it is once again time to plan for a 3 day detox. I try to do it on a regular basis, four times a year with the changing of the seasons

Berry-Nut Yogurt Parfait Recipe

I found this and a lot more great recipes from  Eliza Domestica at elizadomestica.com/

Really worth checking out her blog...unless your not a fan of Berry Nut Yogurt Parfait or Peach Raspberry Yogurt Smoothies.

Seriously, many of her ideas will make a nice addition to any body detox diet.

Ingredients

Berries – all kinds are great, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries (note: I like to mix and match different fruits, depending on what is in season, stone fruits like peaches and apricots are great and I love chopped apples in my yogurt, too)

Yogurt (plain Greek yogurt and Activia yogurt are my absolute favorites)

Toasted nuts! (walnuts, almonds, and pecans are my favorite)

Directions - Pre-toast nuts the night before to save on time. Simply pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, spread 1 cup of your nuts of choice onto a cookie sheet and bake for 10 minutes. Let nuts cool before mixing in with yogurt.

Mix it all together and enjoy!

Peanutty Caramel Apple "Gramwiches"

This month, the American Heart Association released its flagship cookbook, aptly titled The New American Heart Association Cookbook, 8th Edition, and affectionately dubbed "Big Red." It contains more than 600 heart healthy recipes, including 150 brand-new ones.

Here is their recipe for a quick and easy sweet snack.

Peanutty Caramel Apple "Gramwiches"

Serves 6; 1 gramwich per serving

  • 1/4 cup peanut butter
  • 2 tablespoons fat-free caramel topping
  • 3 low-fat graham crackers (3 rectangular flats), each broken into 2 squares
  • 1 large apple

In a small bowl, stir together the peanut butter and caramel topping. Spread on the graham crackers.

Holding the apple upright, cut 6 lengthwise slices, each 1/4 to 1/2 inch wide, from the sides. (Discard the core and reserve any remaining apple for munching.) Place one apple slice on each graham cracker square.

OK Go - Pretty Cool Video

I will admit to ocassionaly spending some unproductive time on youtube.
Yesterday I was checking out gospel performances and tonight has been....well, random.

Anyway, this one was on the most viewed list and I gave it a click. Glad I did.

This has nothing to do with body detox, raw foods, health, karma, or any of that other important stuff....just thought it was cool and worth a share.

Without further ado...enjoy! ( ps: pay attention at 2:49}

Weird Food Names

By Amanda Greene Posted September 15, 2010 from WomansDay.com

While menus aren't usually considered works of comedy, a particular dish's name—like “bubble and squeak” or “burgoo”––occasionally will elicit belly laughs. Thanks to their unusual origins or mangled etymology (like a game of telephone), the food names below are a humorous change from the standard fare.

Spotted Dick

Though spotted dick is a simple English dessert made from pudding and dried fruit, it induces giggles in preteens around the world. The name, which may have originated in the mid 19th century, describes the dish: the dried fruits, which are usually currants, look like spots, and "dick" is a version of the word dough, pudding or thick (which describes the dish's consistency). Photo: David Murray/Getty Images.

Stinking Bishop

Anyone who's been within smelling distance of this particular cheese understands the first part of its name: The wheels are said to have an odor that brings to mind dirty socks and wet towels. But the second half is purely coincidental. It's actually derived from Stinking Bishop pears, whose juice the cheese is immersed in. The pears got their name from their farmer, Mr. Bishop. Photo: Will Heap/Getty Images.

Headcheese

Oddly enough, headcheese isn't cheese at all. But you're going to wish it were. The gelatinous meat is made from chopped-up bits of the head of a pig, calf or cow—including the tongue—and sometimes the feet and heart. The origins of its name are unclear, but it's been suggested the source of the name could be either because the recipe used to contain cheese or because of the connected etymology of the words cheese and molded (molds are used to make headcheese). Bubble and Squeak

Though it may sound more like a bath toy than a hearty meal, bubble and squeak is actually a traditional English dish made with leftovers from a holiday dinner or Sunday roast. The name comes from the sounds the food—often pork, ham, sweet potatoes and root vegetables––makes when it's frying in the pan. Photo: Ian Garlick/Getty Images.

Bangers and Mash

To us it sounds more like a rock band, but this dish consisting of sausage and mashed potatoes is popular pub fare in England. Across the pond, sausages are known as bangers, which can be traced back to World War I, when food shortages required people to pack sausages with a variety of fillings, causing them to pop and hiss—or make a "bang"—when cooked. Photo: Jean Cazals/Getty Images.

Burgoo

Anyone from Kentucky can tell you that burgoo is a stew made from multiple meats simmered with veggies. As for the name, it's a toss-up as to its origins. It could be a variation on the French word for meat stew, ragout, a mispronunciation of barbecue or an interpretation of bulgur, from which burgoo was originally made. Photo: Maryellen Baker/Getty Images.

Devils on Horseback

A tasty treat with an ominous-sounding name, devils on horseback are prunes or dates stuffed with chutney and wrapped in bacon. The name is thought to have been inspired by its contrast to angels on horseback, which are oysters—whose curled edges resemble wings––wrapped in bacon. Photo: Dorling Kindersley/Getty.

Priest Choker

Bearing no relation to the Stinking Bishop, strozzapreti (which means "priest choker" in Italian) is an elongated form of cavatelli pasta. Centuries ago in Italy it was common practice to let priests eat for free. So it is said that some restaurant owners wished the priests would choke on this thick pasta before they could get to their next (more expensive) course. Photo: iStockphoto.

Limping Susan

Hoppin' John, a Southern dish made from rice and black-eyed peas, has a less able-bodied cousin: Limping Susan, which is made with okra instead of peas. While Hoppin' John's name is credited to a variety of sources (the jumping around of the peas in the pan or the legendary servant John who invented the dish), it's anyone's guess as to where the slow-footed okra dish's name derived from. Photo: Andre Baranowski/Getty Images.

Whoopie Pie

These tasty cake-like confections have been making people happy for years. In fact, their name is believed to have come from the gleeful "Whoopie!" that Amish farmers would shout when they found one in their lunchbox. Hey, without electricity, it's the little things in life. Photo: Martin Jacobs/Getty Images.

Meditation: Learn how to Relax

"Walking in nature, sitting quietly, painting (art), singing can all be forms of meditation. Focus on what inspires you whether it be a piece of music, a reading from a book, or even dreaming of being on a beach where no one else is; total peace of mind. You can meditate anywhere, and the great thing about meditation for healthy living is that you do not need to put on a pair of tights or be in any special position" (source September 12, 2010 | By admin In Healthy Living)

Meditation is not about following someone's video guide or buying the right outfit for a yoga class. At it's core, meditation is simply learning how to relax and free your mind and body from the stress that is life. There will be no "life without stress"...just not gonna happen. But you should regularly find a little time to take a little "vacation" from the day to day.

Nothing wrong with yoga...just not my thing. For me, it's sitting on my porch with a good cup of coffee and my feet up on the railing. Just sitting and appreciating the sites and sounds of the nature around me. Just for reference, I included a photo of my "front yard" at sunset Gives me time to really relax and forget about life's pressures and appreciate the beauty that is always all around me. Works for me...what's your thing?

Whatever it is..make it a regular part of your day and....just relax.

Miracle diet pill! (with teeny-tiny side effect)

Apologize in advance if your sensitive to the language in this video...but it's just too funnnyyy not to post.

And so to the point...magic pills are not the answer. Body detox is best achieved through lifestyle changes...not from a bottle of pills.

That is, unless you want the results so eloquently detailed below....

Baked Penne and Roasted Veg

Ran across this recipe for a healthy and delicious sounding addition to your recipe files.

Baked Penne and Roasted Vegetables
  • 2 red peppers, cored and cut into 1-inch wide stripes
  • 2 zucchini, quartered lengthwise and cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 2 summer squash, quartered lengthwise and cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 4 cremini mushrooms, halved
  • 1 yellow onion, peeled and sliced into 1-inch strips
  • 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt, divided
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, divided
  • 1 tablespoon dried Italian herb mix or herbs de Provence
  • 1 pound penne pasta
  • 3 cups marinara sauce (store bought or homemade)
  • 1 cup grated fontina cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated smoked mozzarella
  • 1 1/2 cups frozen peas, thawed
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan, plus 1/3 cup for topping
  • 2 tablespoons butter, cut into small pieces

Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F.

On a baking sheet, toss the peppers, zucchini, squash, mushrooms, and onions with olive oil, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon pepper, and dried herbs. Roast until tender, about 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil over high heat. Add the pasta and cook for about 6 minutes. Since you will be cooking the pasta a second time in the oven, you want to make sure the inside is still hard. Drain in a colander.

In a large bowl, toss the drained pasta with the roasted vegetables, marinara sauce, cheeses, peas, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 teaspoon pepper. Using a wooden spoon, gently mix, until all the pasta is coated with the sauce and the ingredients are combined.

Pour the pasta into a greased 9 by 13-inch pan. Top with the remaining 1/3 cup Parmesan and butter pieces. Bake until top is golden and cheese melts, about 25 minutes.

Eat Less - Move More

Simplest and most effective diet plan ever...Eat Less - Move More.
What a concept! Direct...to the point...effective...inexpensive.
Why isn't everyone doing this?

As you will see in the video below...it's a bit more complicated than that.

Just between you and me...she could do with a good 3 day detox.

3 Day Detox Lettuce Diet? Don't think so!

Ok..I advocate a 3 day detox to be done 3 or 4 times a year....but this isn't exactly what I recommend.
Actually a pretty funny video. He blew it with the after detox feast.

In spite of the occasional video for fun, a 3 day detox is a good idea for most of us (without the burgers and shakes).

How Much Sugar Is In A Can Of Soda?

In writing for the natural body detox blog we talk about reducing (if not eliminating) processed sugars from your diet.
But do you really know how much sugar your consuming? I can tell you it is far more than the one spoonful you put in a cup of coffee or on a bowl of cereal.

This video shows how much sugar is in one 12 ounce can of soda...it's kinda scary. How many of these does your family consume in one day?

This video is kinda cute and pretty simple...but the message could be vitally important to you and your family.

National Toasted Marshmallow Day

Just in case you overlooked it on your calendar...

Today is National Toasted Marshmallow Day.

While not something I recommend for body detox, it's hard to resist warm toasty marshmallows.
If you wanna take a 10 minute break from your super healthy diet and roast a couple marshmallows...today would be the day for it.

Natural Body Detox With Fruits and Vegetables

Eliminating toxins from our system is accomplished by means of our natural body detox processes. The bodies method of eliminating impurities is very effective the majority of the time. But, eating an unhealthy diet and bad living habits can interfere with that procedure and cause a variety of health problems. Impurities may also build up as a consequence of irregular sleep, stress, and excess medicines, together with the chemical substances from foods and the environment.

The key to natural body detox is basically to consume more foods that aid with detoxifying and to reduce your exposure to harmful poisons and processed foods. Eating more unprocessed foods is the best approach to help the cleansing process along. The foods that do the most damage are fast food and processed foods that have added sugar and other additives.

Surplus fat stored in the body is where the majority of these impurities are found. Natural body detox methods focus on reducing this body fat since the majority of the toxic substances we eat can only be absorbed by these fat cells.

Drinking lots of purified water and avoiding solid food for a short time is sometimes referred to as water fasting and has long been used as part of natural body detox plans. Water fasting leads to the body using built up fat for energy and releases the poisons that were stored in the cells so they are flushed out of the system. Flushing the remaining poisons from the body is a much easier process for our body once they are released from the fat cells. A water fast isn't suggested for people with some health issues and a health professional needs to be consulted before attempting such a fast.

Many people achieve good outcomes using juice fasting to assist in detoxing. Drinking fresh juices help to make available important nutrition and enzymes that the body needs to be more effective in cleansing the system of toxins.

The acidity in many kinds of fruit juice help to detoxify more successfully. Lemons and grapefruit can be especially helpful to detoxifying. Other helpful foods are pineapple and tomatoes. Combining several fruit juices is a great way to get the day started. You will find a huge assortment of great tasting drink recipes on the net, or simply try a few different things at home. You need to be careful not to consume an excessive amount of acidic fruits as a detox reaction can come about from impurities being released back into the system too fast.

Using a recipe of lemon and honey is often used during a natural body detox. A lot of people find this better than a water fast and say that it provides a more comfortable cleansing process. Lemon and honey works great for detox and delivers some nourishment that water fasting won't.

The absolute most useful thing you can do to help your body detox in a natural way is to eat more raw foods. Raw foods supply live antitoxin enzymes that work within the body to break down and flush out harmful toxins. These enzymes are damaged when food is cooked. Another healthy benefit of eating fresh produce is the improvement in colon function. You will find that you are more resistant to sickness, have more energy, and generally just feel better.

Another great benefit to natural body detox found in unprocessed vegetables and fruit is their high fiber content. The more you can alter your diet to incorporate fresh raw foods and eliminate processed foods, the healthier you will be and you will be amazed by your energy levels.

3 Day-Detox: Should it be Considered Just a Cleanse or as a Diet Regime also?

Many people look to a 3 day detox plan as a diet regime for quick weightloss and others use it as a cleansing regime.  People commonly start a detox regime for one of three reasons: weight reduction, cleansing the body of toxins, or to "quick start" a diet regime or other life-style modifications.  The success you will experience has a lot to do with which of these reasons motivate you.  We need to look at each of these reasons independently to be able to have an expectation of what can be achieved.

You have almost certainly seen statements like "I lost 10 lbs in 3 days!"  That is most likely valid.  A 3-day detox diet will typically produce weight-loss of five to ten pounds in many people.  That's great if you just want to lose a few pounds fast.  The catch is in retaining the weightloss after you conclude the detoxification diet.  If you don't modify any of the things that led to the weight in the first place the weight comes back practically every time.  You don't want to fall into a cycle of diet...get it back...diet again...gain it back.  In the long term you will not achieve anything and can do more harm than good.  If the only aim is to drop weight a steadfastness to a long term weight-loss and weight management regime is your best alternative.

Detoxifying the body of impurities  and  toxins is truly what a 3 day detox is intended to do.  Weightloss is just a welcome side effect.  More importantly these diets are a terrific way to quickly cleanse out your body by flushing away excess impurities.  This is achieved by increasing the intake of water and fresh fruit and vegetable juices while reducing the intake of foods containing things that pollute your body.  Routinely cleansing the body of excess impurities aides the bodies natural procedure of filtering out toxins.  This is why people frequently state that they "feel better".  The actual usefulness of a detoxification diet is helping your body do what it is already trying to do...getting rid of the things your body does not desire or need.  A lot of people routinely do a brief cleansing to help their body cleanse more effectively.

The third purpose was to use a 3 day-detox as a starting point on the way to a bigger goal of healthier living.  Actually, it won't do alot of good to do a quick cleansing and subsequently do nothing else.  Any advantage you get will not last long.  To really be healthier calls for making some improvements.  If you do a 3-day detox and follow that up with some straightforward improvements in diet and exercise, you will see constructive change that lasts.  The great news is that even minor modifications can give terrific benefits.  Let's say, as an illustration, the you do a cleansing diet for 3 days....and make a commitment to drink 2 liters of water every day after that.  Add an orange for breakfast instead of a pop-tart, and have an apple at lunch instead of chips.  You have increased your consumption of high-quality stuff and cut back your intake of bad stuff.  Give yourself time to get used to these small changes and make them way of life.  The next time you detox (maybe in one or two months), make a few further small improvements in food intake or exercise.  A 30 minute stimulating walk each day is a advantageous goal.  In a years time it will revolutionize your existence.

Whatever your goal for considering a 3-day detox, take time to set some goals and recognize what you imagine to accomplish.

Tips about Preparing for a 3 Day-Detox Diet

Before starting a 3 Day-Detox diet it is well worth taking the time to prepare. Taking the time to plan a few things and do a little shopping can be the key to getting the results you want. There is no reason you should be hungry during any kind of holistic detox regime. In fact, you can even make it a fun and pleasant experience if you give it some thought.
Here are a few things to consider:

Pick the time: Pick the day you are going to start and put it on your calendar. Give yourself about a week to get ready. If possible, try to pick a time when you can relax like during a vacation or 3 day weekend. This is a time for you to relax and do something for yourself.

Evaluate your health: A cleansing detox is really pretty easy and safe for most people. However, people with degenerative illness or conditions affecting the liver, kidneys, or immune
system should always consult their doctor before starting any kind of diet.

Attitude: Get our head in the right place! You are doing this for yourself. You are going to look and feel great! Make the commitment that you are getting ready to do something great
for yourself. A 3 Day-Detox diet is radically different from the diet you eat most of the time. Accept that it will be somewhat challenging. Commit to what you are going to do and embrace the goals you have set for yourself.

Cut down on bad stuff: During the week before you start your detox diet try to cut back on some of the things that put toxic stuff into your system. You don't have to go on a diet before you start your diet - just make some small changes in your normal diet that you are comfortable with. Just reducing the amount toxins you consume by a little helps. Replace a bag of chips during the week with an apple or cut back on red meat and add some fish instead. Start drinking a little more water - just adding a couple of glasses of water a day will help make you super successful when you start the diet. Some things to think about cutting back on include: coffee, alcohol, hydrogenated oils, prepared foods, canned meats, junk food, tea, bread, red meat, pork, fried and deep fried food, yellow cheese, cream, butter and margarine, and shortening.

Detox Diet Recipe: 3 Day-Detox meals don't have to be boring. Most consist primarily of fresh fruit and vegetables. The specific diet you choose may include fresh fish as a protein source. The emphasis is on "fresh" in everything. There are some fantastic recipes for making wonderful fresh veggie and fruit salads. Take some time during your preparation week
to find some that look good to you. You will be amazed at what you can find and how tasty it is.

Go Shopping: Just do this as a part of your normal food shopping. Again, planning will equal success. Most of your diet will consist of fresh fruit and fresh vegetables. Do you have any
idea how many varieties of fruit there are? Experiment with this part - try some new things - make it a culinary adventure. Think about some spices that could liven up a salad. The recipes you find will give you some guidance. Must haves include some lemons, herbal tea, whole grain cereal, and virgin oil. Other ingredients for the recipes you choose may include: carrot or beetroot juice, fresh garlic, home-made honey, hot spices like chili, cayenne, lemongrass, or ginger.

Gizmos and Gadgets: Fortunately these are not high tech diets. You probably have what you need already. Some things to think about are a bamboo or metal steamer for vegetables and fish, food containers, a juicer, and a food chopper. You should consider a filtered water pitcher. Water is a big part of a 3 Day-Detox diet and it needs to be pure. A filter for the water tap or bottled water are the alternatives.

Exercise: This is not the time to take up kickboxing! Thirty minutes of light exercise is recommended each day. A brisk walk is fine. Maybe you like hula hoops better - it's up to you. This is an opportunity to do something fun - think about what you already like to do. Remember to keep it light - no mountain climbing.

Luxury: Reward yourself for all your effort! Maybe you could include bath salts and a new loofah in your shopping list. Exfoliating cream, a pedicure, or a massage treatment are things you can do for yourself that only add to how good you will look and feel. A soothing and relaxing bath is never a bad thing.

You're all set! You have taken time to plan and make your 3 Day-Detox fun, interesting, and tasty. You will certainly achieve your goals and you are going to look great!
